The University of Zakho Participated in 21st World Congress on Heart Diseases Held in Boston, USA During July 30 – August 1, 2016

As a response to the invitation sent by International Academy of Cardiology, Prof. Omar Al-Habib participated in 21st World Congress on Cardiology held in Boston ( USA ) from July 30 to August 1, 2016. In this world congress, about 440 scientific papers were selected from 700 articles submitted to the congress from over 40 Countries. These articles were presented and discussed during the three days of the congress. It is worthwhile to mention that University of Zakho was not the only University from Kurdistan, but from Iraq as well, it was among one of the five countries in the region including Turkey and Iran who also participated in the congress. Prof. Omar Al-Habib a University of Zakho representative participated in this congress by presenting, in collaboration with Mr. Sardar Saeed, an article entitled “Time-Dependent Relaxant Effects of Nitric Oxide and Carbon Monoxide Interaction on Albino Rats Aortic Rings with Special Emphasis on the Roles of K and Ca channels”. Due to the importance of the research in the field of cardiovascular disease, it was discussed and commented by several scientists and research workers who participated in the congress.

The congress provided an innovative and comprehensive overview of the latest research development in cardiovascular medicine, primarily in the areas of Vascular Biology, Pharmacological Modulation of endothelium function, Coronary Artery Disease, Heart Failure, Cardiac Arrhythmia, Interventional Cardiology for Heart Valve Disease and Cardiac Surgery. The opening ceremony was started with the welcoming of the participant’s on the behalf of the organizing committee, by Prof. Asher Kimchi (Founder and Chairman of the International Academy of Cardiology) who announced the winning recipients of the 2016 IAC Awards. In addition to the IAC awards, the committee also named three Faculties who received the Distinguished Fellowship Awards.

During the period of the Congress, several companies held exhibitions of the modern instruments, devices and technologies used for Heart Disease. In addition, some social activities like “Get-Together” and “Farewell Dinner” were served. Finally, the 21st World Congress of Heart Disease concluded with a closing ceremony and the distribution of the Participation Certificates to all the Congress Participants.
